Well...at least it is enjoyable to watch the GTLM cars. I'm sure my opinion is in the extreme minority (i.e. just me) but I find the prototype racing to be - at all levels - uninteresting. I would rather see top end hypercars (918, P1, La Ferrari, etc.) take over and have only production car based racing outside of formula series.

But whatever, it is what it is.

Back to drinking before hockey starts, hope everyone is having a good weekend.

I have to agree. With the prototypes you lose the identity of the cars. You can't say, 'Hey, there's the Nissan.' The GT cars so much better because they are recognizable. I will say that the top prototypes in Le Mans are interesting to watch. Mainly Toyota v. Audi this past year. Besides that, the LMP2 cars are dead to me.

Don't stop there; only production cars for F1 as well!

I agree, makes more sense in building those hypercars. Another way is to make those prototypes street legal and go into limited production for homologation purposes like it used to be.

Let's also look at LeMans and flip it. Make a roadgoing R18 e-tron quattro.

But really, I do have to agree. I was at the Rolex race at Mid Ohio last year, and I was much more interested in the GT cars specifically because theyre real cars that I could identify with. Prototypes are cool from the technology, looks, and sound standpoint. But I find them hard to watch.

I just feel bad for the little Mazda team. They just do not have the speed to be remotely competitive, much less with the prototype class.

Why not? It is all hypothetical anyway...

It seems silly that cars designed purely to be race cars can't have fenders.

Are you going for "F1 cars should have homologation requirements"?

Nope, I'm saying we need classes of fendered cars built purely as race cars, like P1
